This traditional Korean folk remedy for postpartum care has been around for over 600 years. Steam or smoke is used to warm feminine areas, gently warming the lower body. The sitz bath was designed to meet the everyday needs of our ancestors.

5. What is yellow ochre?
It is a fine-grained, earthy pigment rich in minerals and enzymes. A key ingredient used since olden times to build

Korean homes and earthenware, yellow ochre has long been added to health remedies. During the Josean Dynasty, it was not only used for people but also cows and horses.

Nowadays, the use of yellow ochre as building material, a purification agent for fish farms, red tide algae removal, livestock feed, and yellow ochre clay rooms is increasingly spreading.

The yellow ochre used to craft our sitz bath is of exquisite rarity - a five-colored clay found only in very limited regions. Packed with 40 different types of minerals, yeasts, and enzymes, five-colored yellow ochre is richer in far infrared radiation, bioceramics, geraminium, and other substances full of health benefits than common yellow ochre.

6. Yellow ochre releases far infrared radiation with added heat
Wooden or plastic sitz baths may be easier on the wallet, but do remember that wood tends to mold or degrade over time, and plastic is a manmade material with worrisome chemical substances in the mix. Yellow ochre, on the other hand, is simply earthenware. It releases far infrared radiation with added heat, warming up your body to its very core. Clay is a breathable material, so it emits a gentle heat that doesn’t feel too hot against bare skin.

7. Yellow ochre has antibacterial, deodorizing, and bacteria-killing properties
Earthenware made of yellow ochre naturally purifies the air with its antibacterial and deodorizing properties. It even minimizes the aroma and side effects of herbal medicine.
It is said in Korea that brewing herbal medicine in a yellow ochre pot makes it 80 times more effective than in a regular pot. Thanks to the natural bacteria-killing properties of yellow ochre, the pot can be kept clean even after use. Chairs and pots made of yellow ochre last almost indefinitely as long as they are not mishandled and cracked. Yellow ochre takes center stage in our products - it is free of other clays to take full advantage of its natural properties.

8. Traditional folk remedy with over 600 years of history
Sitz bath (mugwort steam) has over 600 years of history in Korea as a traditional go-to remedy for midwives. Absorbing herbal steam from feminine areas warms up the entire lower body. From ancient times, women all over Asia have relied on lower-body bathing remedies for enhanced health and beauty. Women would keep their feminine areas clean by warming their lower abdomen with steam from brewing or pour boiling water over herbal medicine.

Most female health concerns are mainly caused by issues with the lower abdomen. With more women showering and skipping lower-body baths, modern women are experiencing more health issues than before.

Sitz bath (mugwort steam) is an effortless way for modern women to enjoy lower-body bathing. The yellow ochre sitz bath is an updated version of the common sitz bath (mugwort steam), healing women with its exquisite combination of carefully-selected yellow ochre and herbal sitz bath blend.

9. Wet mugwort steam vs. dry mugwort steam
Our product uses wet mugwort steam, where steam from a pot warms the lower or entire body. A steam gown is worn to trap the steam to create a sauna-like effect, encouraging your body to sweat and making your skin extra soft.

As for dry mugwort steam, the mugwort is lit on fire like moxa to smoke the lower body. While less time-consuming, you don’t sweat as much, and the combination of smoke and strong aromas makes it a less attractive option under modern living conditions.

10. How our yellow ochre sitz baths are made:
・Expert craftsmen handcraft each sitz bath out of yellow ochre from scratch.
・The process requires 15 days of drying the sitz bath in the shade, hidden from direct sunlight.
・The sitz bath is baked in a kiln for about 1 week.
・It takes 5 days for the sitz bath to chill.
・Master craftsmen carefully inspect each finished product and select only those that meet our high standards of product quality. Only 70% of sitz baths make it past this step.

11. Leaving the sitz baths unglazed on purpose
Each and every yellow ochre chair is handcrafted by expert craftsmen using traditional methods without glazing.
So why skip the glaze? This is to make full use of the unique properties of yellow ochre.

Yellow ochre is a breathable type of earthy pigment with countless holes in its fine grains to constantly adjust its heat and moisture level. Glazing covers up these holes. To maximize the effectiveness of sitz baths, we must make sure the yellow ochre can maintain optimum temperatures. Only Korean five-colored yellow ochre of top quality is used to craft our sitz baths, of course without any glazing.

16. Frequently Asked Questions

Yellow ochre is known as living soil with auto-cleansing, biodegrading, and air cleansing properties.
No special care is necessary to maintain the yellow ochre chair and pot. They naturally fight off mold and odor-causing bacteria.
Q2. Should I leave my underwear on under the steam gown?
The purpose of the sitz bath is to soak up the active ingredients of herbs from the skin. We recommend wearing the steam gown in the nude after removing your undergarments.
Q3. Can I start seeing results after one session?
Many users claim to feel benefits after one session. Your metabolism will improve through repeated use. Your body will detox more easily, and you may start experiencing better results over multiple sessions.
Q4. Can I drink fluids during the sitz bath?
We recommend staying hydrated during use.
Q5. How can I pass my time during the sitz bath?
Try watching TV, listening to music, or engaging in any other relaxing activities of your choice.
Q6. How should I spend my day after the sitz bath?
Avoid showering. Try to relax as much as possible.
We recommend lying down and even taking a nap.
Q7. Does it leave a smell behind in rooms?
Fabric tends to absorb smells more easily. The scent of the herbal sitz bath blend may linger slightly in rooms with many interior items and furniture using fabric (carpets, curtains, sofas, etc).
Open the window of rooms with windows. Please use a ventilation fan if possible to help aerate the room.
My home has flooring and blinds. It may be because there are few interior items and furniture using fabric in my home, but speaking from personal experience, the scent does not linger until the following day. I rarely notice any lingering smells. The room does smell like the herbal sitz bath blend right after the session, but the scent becomes less noticeable in no time. One of the spas and beauty salons using our products does not even use an air purifier. Please bear in mind that sensitivity to smells varies from person to person. We currently have not received any reports of customer dissatisfaction related to smells from mugwort steam.
Q8. Could it set off the fire alarm?
We have not received any customer reports of fire alarms getting set off due to any of our products.
Pour about 600cc of hot water into the pot.
The hot water should come up to the pot handles.
The hot water will slowly release steam over the course of 40 minutes.
You will be wearing a steam gown, so the steam mixes with sweat under the gown, dripping onto the floor once transforming into water droplets. The rest gets released into the air.
If the stove is set to 1~2 during the mugwort steam during these 40 minutes, half of the hot water will remain in the pot in the form of thick liquid mixed with the herbal sitz bath blend.
All in all, not much water from the pot gets released into the air.
